About The Georgia Ballet
The Georgia
Ballet, founded in 1960 by
Marietta,
Georgia native
Iris Hensley, is a destination for exceptional training,
performance and educational outreach. At its helm are
Artistic Director Gina
Hyatt-Mazon, Ballet Master/Resident Choreographer
Janusz Mazon (both
former principal artists of
Germany’s Hamburg Ballet)
and Executive Director Michele
Ziemann-DeVos.
The
company’s repertoire of
classical and contemporary works includes ballets by such
luminaries as George Balanchine and Peter Anastos and is
augmented by the critically acclaimed and award winning
choreography of its own Janusz Mazon, whose ballets include
The Firebird, A
Sleepy Hollow Story, Pinocchio, A Young Dancer’s Guide to
the Orchestra and
American Dreamer, among others.
The Georgia Ballet is committed to
Arts in Education and
serves 12,000 area students annually through a variety of
programs designed to make the art of dance accessible to
school children.
All programs meet Georgia
Quality Core Curriculum Standards, allowing educators the
opportunity to share the arts, specifically dance, with
their students.
The
School at The Georgia Ballet,
with an enrollment of 350 students, enjoys a rapidly growing
reputation - regionally and nationally - for its
increasingly recognizable fine training, as well as the
definable artistry of its pre-professional students.
The Georgia Ballet is a member of the Southeastern
Regional Ballet Association (SERBA).
In 2010,
The Georgia Ballet won top honors at the Ovation Awards as Cobb County’s
Most Outstanding Arts Organization.
Community Involvement
The
Georgia Ballet is a proud member of
United Arts of Cobb.
The
mission
of the United Arts of Cobb is to create and administer a
permanent Endowment Fund which will support and enrich the
artistic endeavors of the United Arts of Cobb members.
The
vision
of this organization is to create a
stable and thriving Art Community that nourishes the
cultural life of Cobb citizens and makes unique
contributions to the overall quality of life to this region.
