RECREATIONAL DIVISION, AGES 6-13

The Georgia Ballet Recreational Division is for students 6 through 13 looking to learn or continue their dance education in a fun and enjoyable environment. Dance classes are offered for any skill level and in different disciplines. 

The 2024-2025 tuition and fees structure includes tiered discounts for multiple classes, with the first class at full price, the second class at 15% off, and any additional classes at 25% off. Discounts are applied starting with the longest class. Tuition rates vary by class length, ranging from $45 per month for a 30-minute class to $185 per month for a 4-hour class. A 5% discount is available if the full year's tuition is paid upfront by September 1. Additional one-time fees include a $55 registration fee, $150 Spring Concert fee (with potential volunteer discounts), and costume fees starting at $85. Intro to Ballet 1 (ages 6-7)

This class will introduce younger students to basic ballet vocabulary and technique in a structured yet fun setting. Simle coordination, musicality, rhythm, and concentration will be emphasized. Students will learn more difficult combinations, work at the ballet barre and learn ballet etiquette.

Intro to Contemporary (6-8)

Contemporary dance is a combination of classical ballet, jazz, and modern dance which transforms words into visual art. Students will learn to dance expressively, being both subtle and dynamic, while conveying musicality and emotion through movement. This class will push students to cultivate their skills for movement while adding in an emotional element to the performance of lyrical and contemporary styles of dance.

Intro to Jazz/Tap (6-8)

Jazz dance is fun and energetic! The class will include a warm-up with stretching, isolations, strengthening exercises, and movement across the floor. Students will learn basic turns, leaps, jumps, and runs set to age-appropriate music. Tap is a great change of pace for dancers who have had significant training and want to enhance their dynamics and versatility. Dancers with previous tap experience of 0-3 years will enjoy this class as a fun way to enhance coordination, rhythm, and performance skills.

This program will continue to introduce younger students to basic ballet vocabulary and technique in a structured yet fun setting. Simple coordination, musicality, rhythm, and concentration will be emphasized. Students will learn more difficult combinations, work at the ballet barre, and learn ballet etiquette. 2 Classes per week are required.

Ballet 1

This class is designed for the beginning dancer. Students will be introduced to ballet vocabulary and technique. Strength, flexibility, rhythm, and musicality will be explored. Those seeking to pursue ballet more seriously are encouraged to take Prep 1 or Prep 2, depending on their abilities, after taking this class. GAB suggests TWO days of Ballet at this level.

Ballet 2

GAB suggests TWO days of Ballet at this level. This class is designed for the intermediate dancer. Students will add to their ballet vocabulary and improve their technique. Strength, flexibility, rhythm, and musicality will be explored. Those seeking to pursue ballet more seriously are encouraged to take Prep 1 or Prep 2, depending on their abilities, after taking this class. *Pre-requisite: Ballet 1 OR Audition.

Prep 1

Participation in both classes is required at this level. The price is for the full program and includes both classes. In Prep 1, students will learn the basics of ballet technique and will see consistent growth and improvement. It is more formal and gives students the discipline to mature as dancers. The importance of strength, flexibility, rhythm, musicality, and memorization will be emphasized. Basics of performing and ballet history will be introduced.

Prep 2

Participation in all 4 hours is required at this level. The price is for the program and includes all classes. Prep 2 cultivates a young dancer in a more focused manner than Prep 1. With two ballet classes each week, a stretch and strengthening class, and a contemporary class, students will develop the basics of a well-rounded technique and will see consistent growth and improvement. Prep 2 builds on Prep 1 vocabulary and physical strength. The importance of strength, flexibility, rhythm, musicality, and memorization will be emphasized. Artistry is introduced as an element to their training.
